Three basic methods of preventing loosening of threaded fasteners

There are three basic types of anti-loosening methods for basic threaded fastener connections:
a. Non-detachable anti-loose
This is an anti-loosening method that changes the detachable threaded connection into a non-detachable threaded connection by welding, bonding or punching riveting, etc. It is a very reliable traditional anti-loosening method. The disadvantage is that threaded fasteners cannot be reused. And the operation is troublesome. It is often used in some important occasions that require anti-loose and high reliability without disassembly.
b. Anti-loosening of mechanical fixings
Using mechanical fasteners to fix and pin between the threaded part and the connected part or between the threaded part and the threaded part to prevent loosening. The advantage of this method is that it is anti-loosing and reliable, and its anti-loosing reliability generally depends on the static strength or fatigue strength of the mechanical fasteners (or the fasteners themselves, such as slotted nuts). Its disadvantage is that it increases the weight of the fastening connection, is troublesome to manufacture and install, and cannot be installed by motor, so the cost is higher. Because of its high reliability, it is still widely used in some important parts of mechanical products and aerospace products.

Using the method of increasing the friction between the threads or between the bolt (screw) head and the end face of the nut, or increasing the friction of both at the same time, to achieve the purpose of preventing loosening. This kind of anti-loose method is less reliable than the above-mentioned type a or type b method, but its biggest advantage is that it is not limited by the use of space, can be repeatedly assembled and disassembled many times, and can be assembled by mobile. Fasteners (such as nylon ring lock nuts, all-metal lock nuts), its anti-loosening reliability has reached a very high level. Therefore, this anti-loosening method is the most widely used in the machinery manufacturing sector and the aerospace field.
