How to eliminate mold orange peel phenomenon

The orange peel phenomenon of the mold polishing machine is a common problem encountered in the daily polishing process of the mold is over-polishing, which means that the longer the polishing time, the worse the quality of the mold surface. There are two phenomena of over-polishing: Orange peel and pitting.

The common cause of orange peel is caused by overheating or excessive carburization of the mold surface. Excessive polishing pressure and long polishing time are the main reasons for orange peel, which is specifically reflected in the polishing of the light guide plate, so we must find a solution This question.

Parts that form pitting corrosion are often caused by hard and brittle oxides in the steel. The reasons for pitting corrosion are generally high polishing pressure, long time, low purity of the steel, and rust on the surface of the mold. There are three elimination measures:

a. Carefully re-grind the surface. The sand grain size is one level coarser than the previously used grain size. Use soft and sharp oilstone for the final step of grinding and then polishing.

b.. Avoid using the softest polishing tool when the size of the grit is less than 1mm.

c. Use the shortest polishing time and minimum polishing strength as much as possible.

The time of over-polishing will vary depending on the hardness of the workpiece material. There are two ways to eliminate the orange peel that has been produced:

a. Remove the defective surface, the grinding grain size is slightly coarser than the previous sand number, and then grinding, the polishing grain size is lower.

b. Carry out the stress zone at a temperature lower than the tempering temperature of 25oC, use the finest sand number for grinding before polishing, and finally polish with the lightest intensity.
