In the metal stamping process, what is the reason for the punch of the mold to break? The reasons for the punch to break are: 1) The punch is subjected to unbalanced lateral pushing forces during the punching process. These forces cause the punch to bend and even break. The first type of force mainly has the following aspects: ① When rubber is used as an elastic unloading part, due to improper assembly, in the hardware stamping process, the rubber is compressed to produce lateral expansion and squeeze the punch to one side. ②The unbalanced spring force in the unloading device causes the unloading plate to tilt, so that the punch is pushed by the lateral force to bend and break. ③The large and small punches are close to each other. In the process of punching, the material around the large hole is deformed to produce side extrusion force on the small punch, which may cause the small punch to break. 2) Improper ratio of the diameter of the punch section to the length of the working part may cause the punch to break. The final proof formula for the length of the working part of the metal stamping punch is: if the length of the punch exceeds this calculated value, it must be designed as a stepped punch. 3) When the small punch is punching thicker and harder materials, the punch is easy to break, and the diameter of the ordinary punching punch should be larger than the thickness of the metal stamping parts. Otherwise, a punch sheath structure should be adopted. 4) Punch breakage is often due to incorrect design and manufacturing. The corner radius of the stepped punch is small, the rough processing does not allow edge marks and grinding cracks, and the machining does not completely remove the decarburized layer caused by forging. And the failure to improve carbide segregation during forging of high-alloy tool steel, improper execution of heat treatment process, etc. can cause early fracture of the punch. Especially for cold extrusion punches. Previous post: Why is there a phenomenon of die gnawing during the stamping process? How to prevent it?
