Installation steps of wire thread inserts and methods of using tools

1. Tapping: Since the wire thread insert is a non-standard product, the tap used is also special. When ordering taps for wire thread inserts, the following instructions should be provided to the manufacturer: the nominal outer diameter, the pitch, the material to be processed, the through hole or the blind hole, and the required accuracy level!

1-1. For aluminum parts that are tapped below M10, single taps can also be used.

1-2. For large-size steel and cast iron bodies, in order to ensure the accuracy and the service life of the taps, three sets of taps should be selected.

2. For military products and civilian products with very strict accuracy requirements, our factory also provides a bottom hole gauge: used to check the accuracy of the internal thread used for the installation of wire thread inserts. To ensure that the thread accuracy of the wire thread insert after being screwed into the screw hole meets the requirements.

3. Thread chamfering: Generally, the screw hole must be chamfered at the broken end to remove the thread half button, so as to facilitate the screwing in. As for the threaded hole for installing the wire thread insert, it is not necessary to process the chamfer. Just remove the burrs. If chamfering is to be processed, 120° chamfering should be made to the outer diameter of the thread. Do not make the 90° cone hole or the chamfer is too large, otherwise it will cause difficulty in screwing in the wire thread insert.

4. Combined screw-in tool:

① Pull the screw-in mandrel back to the end. (Guide: Tips on stainless steel fasteners)

②Put the wire threaded sleeve into the sleeve from the notch of the sleeve, so that the end of the mounting handle faces the large end of the tapered thread of the guide head.

③Push the screw-in mandrel forward and pass through the wire thread insert, and make the notch of the end of the threaded mandrel block the installation handle of the wire thread insert.

④Turn the handle, under the action of the screw thread of the mandrel and the thread of the sleeve, screw the mandrel forward and drive the wire screw sleeve to screw into the tapered screw hole of the guide head, and continue to screw Move until the wire threaded sleeve exposes about a thread on the end surface of the guide head.

⑤ Align the screw-in tool head with the screw hole of the wire threaded sleeve, hold the sleeve with one hand along the screw hole direction

Apply a little pressure and keep it vertical. With the other hand, continue to turn the handle to make the wire threaded sleeve enter the screw hole from the guide head until the wire threaded sleeve is completely separated from the guide head.

⑥ Rotate the sleeve upwards to create a distance from the machine, so as to observe the position where the wire thread insert is screwed in.

⑦Continue to turn the handle, so that the end of the wire threaded sleeve is recessed into the end face of the machine by 0.5 to 1 pitch.

⑧ Pull out the screwing tool and observe (or check with a measuring tool) whether the wire thread insert has a snapping phenomenon in the screw hole. If the installation is normal, the wire thread insert is screwed into the screw hole to complete the installation.

4-1, Split screw-in tool

The split selection tool is composed of a guide seat and a screw-in mandrel.

①Put the mounting handle of the wire screw sleeve downward and put it into the tapered hole of the guide seat by hand, then insert the mandrel into the wire screw sleeve and let the end notch clamp the installation handle. Or put the wire screw sleeve on the screw-in mandrel first, let the mounting handle snap into the notch of the mandrel, and then hold the guide seat and screw the wire screw sleeve into the guide seat.

②Continue to rotate the mandrel to make the wire threaded sleeve all enter the guide seat, and about a buckle is exposed at the other end of the guide seat.

③Place the guide seat on the screw hole, and align the wire threaded sleeve with the screw hole.

④Press the guide seat with one hand, and continue to rotate the mandrel with the other hand, so that the wire threaded sleeve is separated and screwed into the screw hole completely.

⑤Remove the guide seat and use a mandrel to screw the wire threaded sleeve to the specified position.

⑥ Take out the mandrel and check whether the installation of the wire thread insert is intact.

Attention: The hand that rotates the mandrel must not push the wire threaded sleeve forcefully, just rotate the mandrel.

4-2, Simple screw-in tool

①Sleeve the wire threaded sleeve on the mandrel, let the mounting handle face forward and snap into the notch of the mandrel.

②Align the wire thread insert with the mandrel to the screw hole, pinch the wire thread insert with one hand, and turn the mandrel with the other hand to screw the wire thread insert into the screw hole until it reaches the specified position, and then pull it out Mandrel, check whether the wire thread insert is installed correctly.

5. The use of de-handling tools

For wire thread inserts with broken grooves, the mounting handle should be removed after screwing into the screw hole.

The process is as follows: For wire thread inserts below M20, a special de-handling tool should be used: align the punch end of the punch of the de-handling tool with the hole of the wire thread insert, hit the upper end of the punch with a hand hammer, and install the handle It will be broken from the breaking groove, and then the broken mounting handle will be taken out of the screw hole.

For wire thread inserts above M20, you can use needle-nose pliers to close the side of the wire thread insert breaking groove and apply a little force to break the mounting handle. This can also prevent the broken groove from remaining in the body.

6. Use of launch tools

After the wire thread insert is screwed into the screw hole, if it needs to be taken out from the screw hole due to improper installation or other quality problems, an eject tool should be used.

Such as: the wire thread insert is screwed into the screw hole and there is a phenomenon of skipping;

The wire thread insert is screwed into the screw hole too deep.

The exit tool has a wedge-shaped blade like a milling cutter and a zero-degree rake angle, which can easily catch the wire thread insert and drive it.

When exiting the wire thread insert, insert the tool into the hole of the wire thread insert first, press it hard, turn the tool counterclockwise, and the wire thread insert will rotate accordingly until the wire thread insert is withdrawn.
