Points to note for split pins

As a mechanical part, split pin is mainly used to prevent loosening of threaded connection. After the nut is tightened, the cotter pin is inserted into the nut groove and the bolt tail hole, and the tail of the cotter pin is opened to prevent relative rotation of the nut and the bolt. Split pin is a kind of metal hardware, commonly known as spring pin.

When using split pins, you should pay attention to five main points:

1. The eye circles should be made as round as possible. (Guide: Frequently Asked Questions During Fastener Maintenance)

2. The cross-section of the two legs of the cotter pin should be circular, but it is allowed that there is a radius ru003d(0.05~0.01)dmax at the junction of the two legs of the cotter pin and the circumference (d cotter pin diameter).

3. The gap between the two cotter pins and the displacement of the two feet should not be greater than the difference between the nominal size of the cotter pin and dmax.

4. If the split pin is allowed to be made into an opening, the angle α between the inner planes of its two feet should meet the specifications.

5. The surface of split pin is not allowed to have burrs, irregular and harmful defects.
