(1) Preliminary heat treatment and tempering before nitriding-the nitriding workpiece should be tempered before nitriding to obtain tempered sorbite structure. The tempering temperature of quenching and tempering is generally higher than the nitriding temperature.
(2) Preliminary heat treatment before nitriding to remove stress treatment--Before nitriding, the internal stress generated during machining should be eliminated as much as possible to stabilize the size of the part. The stress relief temperature should be lower than the tempering temperature, the holding time is longer than the tempering time, and then slowly cool to room temperature. Normalizing is not suitable for parts with larger cross-sectional dimensions. Tool steel must be quenched and tempered, and annealing is not allowed. (3) The surface roughness Ra of nitriding parts should be less than 1.6um, and the surface must not have defects such as napping, bruising and rusting. Parts that cannot be processed in time must be protected with oil to prevent rust. When hoisted into the furnace, wipe it with clean gasoline to ensure cleanliness.
(4) Nitriding treatment is not suitable for workpieces with sharp corners and sharp edges.
(5) It is not advisable to use the method of leaving a machining allowance for the protection of parts that are not partly nitrided.
(6) Nitriding is not allowed for workpieces whose surface has not been ground.
