Several historical periods in the development of Zhejiang hardware industry

The hardware industry in Zhejiang Province has a long history, originating from the metal processing handicraft industry. In the course of the past thousands of years, countless folk craftsmen set out from Zhejiang to seek a livelihood in all regions of the country. Especially in Yongkang City in Jinhua, the ancient proverb was born: 'If you strike copper and iron, go everywhere, you will never leave Kang.' According to some survey reports before the liberation, there were hundreds of metal processing technology categories in Zhejiang at that time, mainly for various large and small hardware products necessary for production and life. After the reform and opening up, the hardware industry in Zhejiang Province has entered a new historical development period and has mainly experienced four important development stages. 1. From 1978 to 1988, the early stage of reform and opening up, a large number of small hardware processing workshops in Zhejiang Province emerged. The market demand for hardware products of each category can support the survival of a hardware workshop. Soon after, these small workshops have grown into various township enterprises due to business development, and the original craftsmen have also been transformed into managers of hardware factories. 2. During the period of rapid development from 1988 to 1996, the national economy maintained rapid growth and the market demand of the hardware industry expanded rapidly, which drove the development of small factories into medium-sized factories. At the same time, the number of newly registered hardware factories also showed a qualitative leap. The original form of scattered layout of small factories gradually transformed into the formation of low-level industrial parks, and then with the strong support of the government, mature hardware industrial parks began to appear. 3. The export growth stage from 1996 to 2008 entered the mid-1990s. The country formulated a new economic development strategy, and exports became one of the troikas of my country's economic growth. Under this general situation, Zhejiang's hardware industry's total exports and the proportion of foreign sales have soared. During this period, Zhejiang's hardware products went abroad, covering almost every corner of every country in the world. 4. The second stage of entrepreneurship from 2009 to the present. In 2008, the global subprime mortgage crisis broke out and export orders dropped sharply. That year, my country's exports experienced a severe decline, and Zhejiang's hardware industry was also severely affected. Subsequently, after market economic adjustment, Zhejiang hardware industry experienced a certain range of survival of the fittest.
