Successful development of the world's largest capacity converter valve

Recently, the world’s first ±800 kV 6-inch thyristor converter valve successfully passed the type test five months ahead of schedule, and all the parameters met or exceeded the technical requirements, marking that my country’s UHV DC transmission technology has once again made significant progress. Breakthrough, the development of the world's largest capacity converter valve has been successful.

Converter valve is the core equipment of DC transmission project. The successfully developed converter valve adopts the newly developed 6-inch, 8500 volt, 4000 ampere high-power thyristor device and a new structural design. The rated voltage is 800 kV, the rated current is 4000 amperes, and the converter capacity of a single 12-pulse converter is up to 1.8 million kilowatts, is currently the world's largest capacity converter valve, representing the world's highest level of DC transmission technology. The converter valve is led by the State Grid Corporation of China, and ABB provides technical support. The two parties cooperated and completed it. It will be used in the Fengxian converter of the Xiangjiaba-Shanghai ±800kV UHV DC Demonstration Project, my country’s first UHV DC demonstration project. Station project.

The successful development of the converter valve fully proved the feasibility of the technical route of the 800kV, 7 million kilowatt grade 6-inch thyristor converter valve, and verified the correctness of the State Grid Corporation's UHV DC transmission technical route. The subsequent construction of UHV DC transmission projects with higher voltage levels and larger transmission capacity has laid a solid foundation, which will greatly promote the development and application of UHV DC transmission technology in the world.
